The Nevado Ausangate-trek (6398m) is considered by a lot of hikers as one of the most beautiful in the Andes . The 8-hour bus-drive from Cusco to Tinqui is an excellent preparation not only to the landscape but to the cold and altitude. It's true that this is a trek that demands a great physical effort. In the mountains one has to give a lot to the Apus (Mountain-Gods) in order to receive… And what you'll receive will be breathtaking landscapes as well as mountaineers hospitality. In the mountains people live the saying "Be good with travelers because who knows when you'll be traveling". The road slingers, goes up and down from one valley to the other, passing nearby high snow-piques over 5000meters high, crossing mountain-passes, icy lakes with extraordinary nuances of blue, passing rough stone houses in perfect harmony in the rocky landscapes.
At these altitudes we'll frequently see lamas and alpacas. Over the rocky mountain-piques soars sometimes a Condor, the greatest bird of prey in the world and absolute master of the Andean airs.
Although the cold and fatigue days will almost pass to quickly and soon we'll arrive at the last hot medicinal baths where we'll be able to wash away the dust and relax our tired muscles.
The Ausangate-trek is an absolute must for people who love adventure, nature, fresh air and hiking in the mountains… The best way to find the lord of the mountains "Apus"
