Mount Ausangate Climbing Expedition

The chain of Ausangate Massif (6384m) is situated in the Cordillera Vilcanota in the department of Cusco, Ausangate is one of the more remote highland areas of Peru. Today it offers a spectacular climbing circuit between peaks, lakes, ice caves, hot springs and an ancient culture under the mythical Inca mountain.

Ausangate Climbing Itinerary:

Day 1: Cusco - Urcos - Tinki
Your team will be picked up directly from your hotel hotel in Cusco by private tourist transport and drive towards the town of Tinki (3900m). On the way we see traditional communities going about their daily routines. This is a region where you can find beautiful and colorful clothing as part of daily life in the Andean Mountains, with its own customs and traditions. We spend the night camping in the town of Tinki (3,900 meters)

Travel time approximately: 4-5 hours.
Includes lunch and dinner

Day 2: Tinki - Upis
After our breakfast, we start the walk up to the Upis our first camp. The path is moderately steep and good practice for what is to come. Upis camp (4400m) is close to a glacier and there are hot springs  very close.  We will have spectacular views of Ausangate, Cinaccara, Cayangate from the camp.

Hiking time: 6 hours.

Day 3: Upis - Step Arapa - Laguna Pukacocha Hatun
We start in the morning ascentding to the first step Arapa (4850m), then continue along the westernmost edge or south face of Ausangate. Then descend to the lakes of Pukacocha (4585m) where we will camp at the east side of this majestic snow.

Hiking time: 5 hours
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 4: Pukaccocha - Steps Ausangate and Palomani - Base Camp
After breakfast we start walking in the direction of two steps, first, the extreme step Ausangate (4850m) from where you can see Ausangatecocha, a beautiful turquoise lagoon. After going down slightly we will ascend again to Palomani Pass (5165m), with a stunning view of Mount Ausangate and Mariposa. Then descend to base camp (4900m Finayapampa), located next to a moraine.

Hiking time: 7 hours
Includes breakfast, lunch (box lunch) and dinner.

Day 5: Base Camp - Moraine Camp
After breakfast we will take down camp and then start climbing towards Moraine Camp (5,200m) located at the base of the wall. The climb will take between 3-4 hours of strenuous up hill climbing. This day will bring us in contact with the glacier and the start of technical climbing.

Climbing Time: 4 Hours
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 6: Reserve Day (by climate changes or other unforeseen events)

7th: Moraine Camp - Ausangate (6372 m) - Base Camp

Summit Day. We will have a very early start as this is day also has the most techinical climbing. Firist we will reach a wall of snow about 180 mtrs. (String) of about 65-75 degree slope. After, we reach the plateau with snow where snowshoes and necessary for about three hours finally we reach the last wall of 70 mtrs. In a 55-65 degree slope, which is installed another fixed rope to reach the main summit. We will enjoy a splendid view and get down in about 2 or 3 hours to Camp Moraine, then continue another hour to the base camp.

8th Day: Campo Base - Step Campa - Laguna Ninaparayoc
Starting a long descend that will take us through beautiful scenery with magnificent views of three peaks, Callangates, Pucapunta and Nevado Campa. We will then navigate the Campa (5100m), after that descend to the Laguna de Ninaparayoc (4656m) where we camp.

Hiking time: 8 hours
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

9th Day: Laguna Ninaparayoc - Pacchanta (Hot Springs) - Tinki - Cusco
After our breakfast, we go down to Pacchanta, where you can enjoy the soothing hot springs. After lunch, continue walking to the village Tinki (3900m), where we meet our private transport back to Cusco.

Hiking time: 5 hours
Includes breakfast and lunch local Pachamanca cooked in stone oven.

Personal Equipment
Sleeping bag, first aid, ice ax, crampons, warm clothes, kitchenware, sunglasses, walking sticks, boots or socks covers, head lamp, large backpack, small backpack attack, hiking boots, snowshoes, jumar of climbing harnesses, three carabineers, descenders plate, helmets and sunscreen (sunscreen).

Difficulty Level: Ice Climbing with technical ice axes and ropes fixed

Included:

All private transportation Cusco - Tinki – Cusco.

Official licensed mountain guide (English and Spanish).

Cook, assistant and kitchen equipment.

Porters (transport equipment, food and water to the height fields).

Horsemen and horses for camping equipment and personal belongings of the participant.

Emergency horse.

Entrance to the Park Ausangate.

Team Equipment (mountain tents, flask, dining tent with tables and chairs, kitchen tent and toilet tent).

Meals.

Mountaineering group equipment (fixed ropes, stakes and screws).

Safety equipment: radios, full pharmacy and oxygen.

Not Included:

Sleeping bag preferably - 20 ° C

Personal climbing clothing (Goretex pants, jacket, gloves, hats etc.).

Climbing equipment (harness, ice ax, ice put great shoes, ice climbing leg)

Important

If changes caused by factors other than the normal organization of the issue such as climate, physical, mental, etc. It is the responsibility of the operator. If the client decides to return before the general program, the costs of this decision will be made by it. 

Recommended Equipment

Sneakers, mountain trekking boots, sandals, shorts, mountain, waterproof pants (waterproof breathable), long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, sunglasses, swimsuit, light mountain boots, cotton socks and wool, cotton shirts, sleeping bag for extreme maximum temperature, water bottle, headlamp with extra batteries, knife and plastic bags.

Protective Equipment
Glasses 100% UV protection with rigid case (if possible carry a spare), goggles, face cream maximum sun protection, lip balm with maximum protection, maximum sleeping bag for extreme temperature, for the cold cap, hat for the sun, buff for the neck thermal shirt, thermal tights, fleece jacket, fleece pants and jacket fine pen.
